When installing EQuIS Professional and EDP there are three options for allowing the user to edit EDDs:

1.Yes – Allow Edits.

2.No – Do Not Allow Edits.

3.Audit – Track and allow edits based upon folder permissions.

 

While the first two options are very direct, the third option, Audit, is slightly more complicated.

 

The Audit feature provides the ability for you to track EDD changes made prior to Creating/Committing a package in EDP. The Audit option will still allow you to make edits to the EDD depending on specific permissions to the selected folder. Auditing is an option that may be enabled during EDP installation only. If the Audit option is installed, you will choose a folder to save tracked edits. However, you may also set individual user permissions to that folder. If a user has read-only permissions to that folder, then he/she will not be able to edit EDDs. If a user has read-write permissions to that folder, then the user will be able to edit EDDs. Only QA personnel with audit review authority should be enabled with read/write access to this folder.

 

In the event that a user does not have access to this folder at a given time, EDP will not allow edits to be performed by that user. The Windows system logon, rather than EDP controls this approval. Please note that if a network folder is used and the folder becomes inaccessible, the user will lose the ability to edit until the link is restored.

 

 

Enable Auditing

 

Select this option during the installation using edpAudit.exe in your Professional installation folder and provide an audit folder for receiving these audit log files.

 

If the audit option is selected, a file path in the "Log Editing Changes to Directory:"  must also be provided. EDP will allow changes to an EDD and will track and save the changes to the folder specified. The audit logs will be stored in subfolders by computer and user name, with filenames constructed as the date and time of the save of the .xml log file. The audit logs contain information pertaining to the changes that were made to a data file in the EDP data grid. The audit path is stored as the value of the registry key. The potential values are "Yes," "No," and <path to audit folder>.

 

Additionally, the registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\EarthSoft\EDP on Windows 7.
